Re: Servo drives- Mariss

Jim,

Be aware the footprint is 3.125" by 2.5" for the G202/G212. Same
mounting hole locations, same position for everything relative to the
mounting holes. The G202/G212 has a $20 surcharge over the G201/G210.

The G100 (bells and whistles version) will be under $400. The G101 is
functionally identical, smaller and is the OEM version. It will be
under $200.

The G100/G101 will work with anyone's step motor drive (Gecko,
Xylotex, etc.). The hardware is done and it works as advertised.

Most of the new square double-shaft step motors come pre-drilled and
tapped for standard encoder mounting (1.812" or 46mm centers). The
G100/G101 will use the encoder feedback from an encoder equipped
stepper to implement the "unstallable stepper" idea. The FPGA
firmware has been written to exploit this potential.

This idea still requires a lot of work on the Rabbit code before it's
real. The goal is to have steppers that are true servo motors; they
will be able to accel/decel and run at 100% of their potential.

Unlike servos, the motors will be able to slow down and back up their
speed-torque curve for more "grunt" during overloads. If the motors
are running an X,Y or X,Y,Z constant-contouring path then the
slowdown will be along the path. That is what I'm working on right
now.

Mariss
