How does the input to the G100 work? I'm planning on picking up one of
the unstallable stepper controllers when they are done, and I'd like to
write my own software for controlling it. If I understand correctly how
it works I'll be able to send it movement command that it carries out,
freeing my compter from (badly) performing realtime operations.

Do you have a protocol spec somewhere?

Do you have any guidelines for choosing an encoder? Number of lines in
quadature or whatever?
