Scott, I'm not sure on all the particulars of the new system being developed. It involves a Slab? A Rabbit? New drive design. Steppers will use encoder feedback to the drive to make them unstallable. I think it is for servos as well. If it is only for steppers, the development seems somewhat moot. Just get a servo and be done with it. But, I don't think thats the case. As Dave points out, The servo systems we have now are pretty much bullet proof. According to the developers its alot closer than a few years away, The hardware exists and the software is getting closer to release. Mach3 will soon use encoder feedback to correct position in the event it is lost with both types of motors making it closed loop. Many enhancements for the use of encoder data back to the control are being written for Mach3 updates and future release of Mach4 according to Art. Mach3 now supports Modbus and gives the user more inputs and outputs for toolchangers, vises, etc. Like 20 of each I think.
6 million pulses per second.. Anyone have a scope with that much sampling rate?
Ron
P.S. Other than closing the encoder loop, I'm wondering how neccessary all this really is. I've been using a Mach/Gecko servo system for almost two years every day that performs flawlessly. What would it do for me?

That's great. But as I was trying to get out of Mariss, is
he is working on the next generation of servo drives or just
sticking with steppers. How is the USB port going to interface
with his servo drives?
Scott
