But, I don't think thats the case. As Dave points out, The servo
systems we have now are pretty much bullet proof. According to the
developers its alot closer than a few years away, The hardware exists
and the software is getting closer to release. Mach3 will soon use
encoder feedback to correct position in the event it is lost with both
types of motors making it closed loop. Many enhancements for the use
of encoder data back to the control are being written for Mach3
updates and future release of Mach4 according to Art. Mach3 now
supports Modbus and gives the user more inputs and outputs for
toolchangers, vises, etc. Like 20 of each I think.
I thought the Gecko stepper drivers were heading towards
producing the pulses in hardware, leaving the software to just
give a point to head to. I am under the impression that the
Mach X software will be supporting this in the future. I just
don't know if this goes for the servo drives as well, or only
the steppers.
