I'm thinking you're not looking at the right places.

I'd venture to guess that more than half if not most of the commerical
PLC's can handle modbus.

Go to any PLC manufacture and then search for modbus.

There are bricks, those self-containced PLC's that have non-expandable
number of in's and out's and chances are modbus is a 50/50 bet on those.

on the larger, modual style, modbus would be common as, well, modbus !

That's why it was chosen I'm sure. it is widespread and generic so is
common place.

At Automationdirect.com , only the smallest unit does not handle modbus.
