IF the largest reason the autotransformer SHOULD not be used is the
ground, then you have some choices. ISOLATE everything, or add
isolation to the power line.
In the isolate everything category comes the death from electrocution
factor if someone bridges the isolation.
In the add isolation to the power line, comes cost and expense.
But, if you NEED AND WANT a variable power supply then the desire is
far greater to figure out HOW to use it.
If you are idly asking because it sparks your interest, then search
teh archives, the pro's have asked and answered it.
If you have a real need, then ask how to use one safely, and you'll
get a whole different set of attitude and answers.
