IIRC, the negatives included grounding that if not done properly could
make the entire machine 'live' and electrocute those with roaming
fingers, but more dangerous is that if one were to set the transformer
to one voltage and it somehow was changed, the voltage might go high
and destroy the other electronics.

Depending on your point of view, getting a nasty shock may not be as
bad as blowing up a trio of expensive drivers !
