A couple of things:

1) USB-to-parallel port adapters don't work for CNC use, where the port needs to be controlled and timed very [recisely by the PC.


2) Be careful with "docking stations". Many of the docking stations that are sold for laptops these days are in reality, USB-attached Port Replicators or Port Expanders. They have what appear to be standard serial and parallel ports on them, but the same caution applis as above-if the connection to the PC is via USB, I don't know of any CNC machine controller software that will work with those ports.

Docking stations that use a large multi-pin connector are usually safe, as these have actual serial/oparallel ports in the machine, and the dock is just used to get them onto connectors.
