Because it is VERY convenient to have the keyboard in reach, and the
monitor screen in sight while setting up parts on the machine. A
monitor/keyboard
arm is a great help, as you can swing it somewhat out of the line of
fire when
you start cutting. Before I had the PC setup with EMC, I had an
Allen-Bradley
7320 CNC control, a huge rack of gear with a 3' square panel of buttons,

keys and a CRT. You should have SEEN the contortions I did trying
to get my eyes close to the tooling, etc. while I had my hand out behind
my
back, twisting knobs and pushing buttons to jog the machine into
position.
