It's not something I lose sleep over. Once set up the need vanishes, with
the risk of a wire falling out possibly taking out the unit. Given that's
only one way you can destroy a drive (even the Geckos have a few "don't do
this" clauses) I figure it's just easier to keep a spare driver. I prefer
using one driver per axis rather than the combined ones.

We all have brain fade moments, so having the driver protect us from
ourselves isn't a bad thing. I once spent hours repairing a PC; as I was
screwing one of the cards in I dropped the screw. Yup, it was powered on...
One new motherboard later...
