Could you give me some details on where and how much the ball screws
were?

I have an old "Hybrid Mill". It has a Rockwell R8 Head mounted on an old
Howard & Rogers base. It is a knee mill. The X travel is 20" and the
Y travel is 6". The Quill has 2.5" travel and the Knee has 12" travel.

I called Rockford and Nook to get prices and they were pretty high.
It would cost almost as much for the Ball screws and nuts as I paid for
the whole machine.

Am I missing something? If this was a Bridgeport retrofit I might not
hesitate as much. But this is a pretty old machine. I don't want to
guess
how old the base is. But I do want to get a CNC machine going.

I don't mind spending the money on Servos and Serevo amps, etc. , as I
can
keep these and apply them to a future (bigger, newer, etc...) machine.
But
the ball screws would stay with the old machine.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks
