Just a few quibbles with what you wrote:

2) G-code in Z is not reversed, at least not inteh conventional sense of
reversal. Raising teh Z axis still makes teh Z coordinate go more positive.
It is true that you start negative and work toward teh positive, instead of
teh other way around as in milling.

3) Torque is not the enemy, rather it is inductance, which limits the speed
of the motors. A torquey machine that can move at the required high speeds
will work fine.

Some things to take into consideration that
were not mentioned.

1. Using an Arduino, especially one which has a
Micro SD or SD slot for a flash drive allows
you to start the print and disconnect from your
PC.

2. G-Code in the Z-axis is reversed to that of milling as milling your
removing material, but in printing your adding material.

3. While typical CNC looks to have the beefiest motors for the additional
torque, to much torque is detrimental to good quality prints. It has been
found that Nema 17's are the best suited for 3D printing using an extruder.

You will need an interface like PronterFace.

This program has Slic3r integrated into it so you can choose to use it to
generate g-code from your dxf files for printing and send it to the printer.
PronterFace is also the controller software for many 3D printers. You can
also use Slic3r separately if you wish.
