HI All,
I recently took delivery of some motors Dan at Camtronics was selling.
They are Oriental Motors brand Vextas, beautiful motors. More importantly,
though they are NEMA 34, they have 1/2" shafts on them. That is your first
clue as to the brute power these motors have when driven by a 5 amp driver
such as Dan's. My machine was dogged by several problems, but mainly by a
lack of knowledge on how to spec motors, whether buying surplus or new. I'm
not really plugging for Dan but I'm sure many will take it that way. If
someone knowledgeable could write a tutorial on specific values to look for
in a typical application, ie., A lower inductance motor driven with a
higher voltage for high speed operation vs a motor set up for ? Perhaps the
information could be placed on the FAQ page. To the others who bought those
motors and indeed to all on the group working on a machine, keep chugging
away cause ain't nothin' like a machine you have built cranking away making
chips, dust, sparks etc.
Have a good one - Peter
