I'm just curious -- did you happen to have the motors, are they the
only ones you could find, or are you actually going to buy them?

I keep reading about people buying UNIPOLAR motors to be driven by
circuits that are (essentially) designed for BIPOLAR motors. Why do
you do this if you have a choice when a BIPOLAR motor with similar
specifications will perform significantly better?

To answer your question, there are several sites listed in previous
posts that describe in great detail how to determine the correct
voltage, and stepper sizing. I believe the "rule of thumb" is not to
exceed 25 times the rated voltage. You can use more, but it won't
gain you any additional performance, just heat.
