I appreciate your comments re materials for turning. The problem is that
the saddle can tilt towards the operator, lifting the rear sliding surface
if the material is "difficult" - you need to set up the saddle retaining
keeper under the bed VERY close to prevent this - do it and it is a
different machine!
I was programming one of these (EMCO CNC5 lathe) to turn Tungsten - and it
worked. NB What I mean is that the work piece was Tungsten metal not
Tungsten carbide- The Tungsten metal turns like a rather obnoxious mild
steel, tears easily, and will destroy carbide tools if you allow it to rub
instead of cut for even a second or two.
What we were making was competition Darts, - as in throw at a dart board.
serious darts sell at about $100 -200 per set of 3, and are often made of
Tungsten because it is about 2.5 times the weight of a similar sized piece
of lead.
