Jon,
I'm in the process of converting my cold saw to hydraulic downfeed.
Air could probably be used as well, although I like low pressure
hydraulic better. I'll adjust feed rate with a flow control valve.
The hydraulic or air method simplifies things. A relay, start
button, and a couple limit switches are all the controls needed. And
an emergency stop, of course.
