There is not much difference in electrical wire plans and ladder
programming.
I like Siemens LOGO units they are cheap and easy to program in boolean
algebra and
have lots of special functions. Get the version 2.0 demo it comes with
simulation.
There are others like IMO, Telemecanique etc.
All you need is common sense and patience.
