Disassemble at your own risk! we have covered this many times
already. Don't overlook the "or more" part of mfr. recommendations.
So you CAN "get away with it"; but you NEVER know what you will have
afterwards... Removing ONE end bell to re-wire might improve your
odds, but what are we talking about here, dollar and time wise?

Yes, it is possible to have a triple stack 34 at only 300 oz. in.!
And yes, stepper motors have improved that much! The reason is the
advanced technology of the magnets used today.
