PMDC Servo Dissasembly?

before I do any more damage to what may already be a ruined motor
I figured I'd ask about this one

is it "safe" to pull the shell (with magnets) off of a PMDC brush servo
motor for a one time repair

I have one motor of a matched set on an XY table that
got "bumped" with a forklift while in storage :-(

two of the tie bolts running between the magnet poles inside the shell
were stretched and the other two broke off at the far end and the stubs
will need to be worked out and the magnets inspected for cracks/chips

I'd rather repair it if possible than try to find a replacement
but if taking it apart to fix it would demagnitize it anyway... catch22

does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing??
