Cadcam, CNC & eCommerce
Hi all,
Newspaper article heading: Shipping costs strangling B2C:study
______________________________
According to a survey released by high tech consultancy Jupiter Media
Metrix, a majority of buyers turn their noses up at Internet
purchases because of shipping and handling costs. And nearly half of
retailers say shipping costs make each transaction a money-losing
proposition.
The consultancy found that 63% of cyber-consumers back out of
purchases when they learn of shipping and handling expenses. And 45%
of Internet retailers say the costs are creating red ink for each
transaction.
According to Jupiter analyst Ken Cassar, the various pricing schemes
retailers concoct for charging customers extra for handling and
shipping are driving consumers from the Web, charging customers
either by the dollar amount of the package or by the number of items
in the order.

My experience: After paying a substantial to a CADCAM e-tailer in
USA for shipping a CNC related item (therefore on-topic post), over
on this end I was again charged for bulk breaking, handling etc. :>
( :>( :>( !!!!!! (jumping up and down)
So if we purchase CCED items from 10 different items, we will have to
pay 10 separate bulk breaking, handling charges! What a great
disincentive for this addictive hobby!!!
We (plural) just won a bid for a CNC related item on eBay and now
waiting for news on the shipping charges. I am just afraid that the
overall shipping charges will end up more expensive than the item
itself.
How can one economise on shipping and handling charges when
purchasing CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO things from the web?
Hope we get lots of suggestions. Thanks
Peter
PS. How about a CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO central store for all the items
commonly purchased by CCED list members so that we purchase and get
all items we need from a central point?
