The Postal service provides the only reasonably priced shipping for small
items going to Alaska. Yup, that's where I am, and love it. I ALWAYS
request Priority Mail shipping and have had good results. I've had only one
lost package, the mailman placed it ON the mailbox on a Saturday and, big
surprise, it wasn't there on Monday! This is at my business in a light
industrial area. All packages now wait for M-F delivery after a
conversation with the manager at the Post Office.
Sending a package here via UPS or FedEx is a minimum of $20.00 or so, there
isn't ground service available to here from the lower 48. Even so, the
Priority Mail rates are substantially less than those I was paying from the
other shippers when I lived in California.
Enco, MSC, Travers and McMaster Carr WILL ship via Priority Mail if you
request and insist on it.
There is, however, a 70Lb per package limit.
Thanks,
Ward M.

"Tim Goldstein <timg@...>: Do I feel like I was taken
advantage of? Heck no. I have a Bridgeport Series II sitting in my
garage now for a total cost of $1932 and I think that is a bargain.
Shipping is a service and no one is getting rich on moving a single
item. Just face that it is an expense and plan your purchases
accordingly."
Just to clarify, there were two transactions, one completed, and from
eBay in progress. Didn't mean to cast aspersion on those selling on
internet (remarks about that was from the news article from AFP) but
ferreting for means to cut down on shipping expenses, if any. The
item on eBay was obtained at less than half of what I would otherwise
have to pay for it. I appreciate very much those hawking their wares
on the internet, but as any purchaser, would like to cut expenses
where possible.
Anyway, US Postal service seem a more economical alternative, and
will like to hear about the experience of those who have used them.
Thanks
Peter
