Weyland,

Well, in the 'old days', you had to download the source code and
recompile the whole works. There was always some problem with
the required libraries missing or some such thing. Pain in the a**.

Thanks to ray, and paul and the rest of the linux gurus there is a
binary release in the dropbox at www.linuxcnc.org that you can
download and just run install. Ray is in the process of recompiling
a new release right now, so wait a week or so and download that
one. There are some problems with the original BDI with a few
bugs that will be fixed with the new version. EMC seems to be
really getting better by the day. One thing that I think makes it
much better is the fact that it is now running under a newer version
of linux that supports the KDE desktop. Much easier to get around
and less annoying little quirks.

Again, I need to say thanks to all of the guys who are working on
the new releases, which helps those of us that are somewhat
linux challenged.
