That's a start. What happens when you run the EMC is that you issue
a command that calls a file with a run extension. If you are working from
an icon on the desktop, then you should look at the properties of the icon.
Under the execute tab you will find the command line. It will point you to
a file named "something".run. That's the first step, find the file that
you are really running. If you are running from a terminal in the emc
directory, you can just type ./ and the name of the run file that you
want to use.
Now look on line 27 of that run file and find the "something".ini file that
is being read by that run file. The ini is what gives much of the EMC it's
personality. Once you have found the real ini that you are running, you
can begin to mess around with its settings.
About line 29 in the typical ini you will find a block of possible display
programs. It might look something like this.
; Name of display program, e.g., xemc
DISPLAY = xemc
; DISPLAY = tkemc
; DISPLAY = yemc
; DISPLAY = keystick
; DISPLAY = emcpanel
The first line that is uncommented (no ; at the start) is the one that will
be used. So if your working ini reads like that above and you want to run
tkemc, that block should look like this.
; Name of display program, e.g., xemc
; DISPLAY = xemc
DISPLAY = tkemc
; DISPLAY = yemc
; DISPLAY = keystick
; DISPLAY = emcpanel
It is not necessary to put all of the possibilities in every variable block
and it is not necessary to have comments.
DISPLAY = tkemc
will work just as well as the whole block of possible files above.
I wonder if we want to move this conversation to emc@... so that we
don't tax the patience of non EMC users beyond the breaking point.
