I would agree with Chris, the Monarch 10EE is considered a precision
toolroom lathe and are near the top in quality as far as that type of lathe
goes. I have two of them as well as a Monarch 12C. The 12C is the
workhorse lathe, a geared head lathe with a lot of great features. This one
is probably what you want for "hogging" large work pieces. I'd guess its
weight to be around 5000 Lbs or so.
By the way, the 10EE has a 5HP DC motor, it has great torque at very low
RPM. If you decide to get it, be sure the speed controller is in good
condition or plan the expense of a replacement. The older ones have a
motor/generator set in them but the newer ones have a speed controller using
large power vacuum tubes. Both are considered reliable units.
Thanks,
Ward M.

#)The Monarch 10EE is a beautifull machine, very heavily built for its
#)intended capacity, but this is to give high quality finishes and help
#)one hold low tolerances, not to enable one to take heavy cuts. Things
#)like the MT 2 tailstock are not-so-subtle hints that this is a solid

#)
#)You probably won't get much for the 12x36 on the used market, so why
#)not keep it to abuse for heavy stuff and get the 10EE for high
#)precision stuff?
