but I'm in a manufacturing center (Detroit).
If you have the time and look around, you can find them for considerably
less, particularly if the drive is blown. I got mine for $300, but it
was disassembled and missing a few pieces.
Early 10EEs used a 3hp DC motor and had a lower (2000 or so) top speed.
They also used a flat belt instead of the 2 V belts.
There are 2 reasonable approaches to drive conversion. One is to
replace the DC motor with a 3 phase AC motor and a VFD control. This
works very nicely and you can even buy all of the parts from Monarch.
The other is to replace the control with a solid state DC control and
keep the original motor. To do this right takes a bit, but it's not
overly complicated. I'll be doing that to mine when I can get to it.
KB Electronics makes DC drives and they have some experience with
customers who have converted 10EEs.
If you do go for a fix up, make sure it has all of the panels; they're
impossible to find on the used market and Monarch wants a huge amount
of money for them.
