Thank you all who responded to my inquiry about the Monarch.
You've certainly increased my confidence about the ruggedness of the
machine.
I am going to go for it if it passes my inspection protocol.
By the way, is $13,000.00 CDN (about $8450.00 USD) a decent price for such a
machine? It is a 1960's model with the 4000 rpm spindle.
Comes with only a 6" 3 jaw chuck and is otherwise stripped. (Not even a
toolpost!)
I've seen them on Ebay for a lot less, but they looked like thrashers to me.
Why anyone would neglect and beat the stuffing out of a high end machine
like that I have no idea.
Of course, I was proposing just that very thing when I talked about heavy
interrupted cuts in hard steel, but it's a good way to get a sense of what
experienced operators regard as the limits of their machines.
I really appreciate the input, and thank you for your offer of schematics,
Ward.
I will contact you if I need them.
Cheers
Marcus
