how the heck to peck

Hi Guys,

I want to convert a drill press to a drilling machine and would like
to get some experienced users comments.

I'll be drilling holes in aluminum and have a few thousand 1/16 inch
holes to drill.

I was looking at modifying the standard drill press arbor with a
stepper to allow it to peck.

I was also looking at a linear actuator on the spindle to make the
stroke.

I've also seen a lot of other methods for controlling the downfeed.
(solenoids, pneumatics, gear and pully drives) Since the tool
pressure is not very heavy and the need for pecking is great (the
chips put a burr on the edge of the hole) I would greatly appreciate
any guidance to get this thing set up.
