You need this sometimes when the indexer has a hard time generatig
the number of pulses required to actually get some speed out of the
motors.
Here's an example:
Taig 2019 mill with 20 pitch leadscrew. Thats 0.05" per revolution
of the screw or 20 turns per inch. At 10 microsteps per step and 200
steps per turn and 20 turns per inch that works out to a whopping
40,000 pulses to go a measily inch. Let's consider an indexer that
can (only) crank out 8kHz or 8,000 pulses per second.
40,000 pulses/inch / 8,000 pulses/sec = 5 sec/inch
Expressed more naturally that is 0.2 inches/sec (IPS). That works
out to a paltry 2.4 IPM. That really sucks. You want 20-30 IPM.
That would require up to 500,000 or 500 kHz worth of pulses.
Some indexers (or slower computers) will struggle with producing that
many pusles. Hence the rate (pulse) multiplier. It buys you the
headroom on your indexer to produce fewer pulses whilst allowing you
to retain the advantages of the smooth microstepping Gecko drive.
