If they all have 100 increments per turn then they need to have 100
increment encoders on them (if I understand correctly)
Somewhere back in this thread I believe I heard the comment that 100
increment encoders are expensive oddballs.
My comments were, that as a user, I don't care whether there are 100
increments per turn or 180 or 36.
In lots of years of machining it's never mattered even once for me.
So, by inference, a standard cheapjack encoder for the budget conscious
should be just ducky for the job of a jogwheel so long as the software makes
it move an even increment for each slot in the encoder.
Remember, I'm talking now about cobbling together a homebrew system, not
retrofitting an existing control that already has a 100 increment encoder on
it.
Purely for convenience, the increment is nice to have at decimal fractions
of an inch, but only when you use it as I have described in a previous post.
When you want to know where you are, you look at the display; you don't need
to count handwheel rotations.
