Steppers on a shaper (was Re: Steppers

Hi Lee,

there are a more than a few circuit designs in the files section on
the group.

If you are planning on getting pretty exact movements to a part,
using a simple software such as TurboCNC and a Gecko would give you
finite control of the movement(s)

This 'solution' is almost canned, whereas you will need to build a
circuit and then trouble shoot it for your application. and it would
cost only a few dollars more than the build it yourself circuit.
You will need to make all the stepper mounting, gearing, timing belts
power supply, etc regardless of how you control the stepper.

You may find that you need to go 90% of the way to full CNC just to
move the axis. and that last 10% is not adding a lot in costs.

Have you figured out how much travel you will need to move the table
between cuts ?

Software will allow you to get precision for multiple parts and
multiple metals. I assume you might want to move somewhere between a
few thou to a a few tenth's of an inch in a single cut?
