Jan I would like to change your sentence here a bit.

A poorly made laminate trim router is just as good
as a poorly made full size router.

I had a Sears Craftsman (Royobi) trim router, cost me about $80.00
lasted a couple of months before the bearings were completly worn
out and lots of slop in the spindle. Took it apart and found the bearing
to be in fine condition. The plastic base of the router which held the
bearing in place was elongated from the bearing heating up and causing
the plastic to stretch. The bearing just wobbled around in the holder.
This was only a few hours a week use, but maybe an hour or two at
a time. It was designed to run for 45 seconds at a time not 45 minutes
