Very possible. I had some stellite end mills - I thought they were just
some brand of HSS until I FINALLY wore them out after years of
use, and got some real HSS tools. I then discovered they were a
LOT tougher than HSS! I think I also have some lathe tool blanks
in Stellite. Great stuff for making cutting tools, boring bars, etc.
out of. I don't know about the hard facing stuff, but I'm sure that
could be done with it.
