Pete,
The firm I just retired from used that method for production for years. We
found that the pin carrier couldn't support the paste syringe and when we
placed the syringe outboard and run a hose to the needle the flux would
separate from the paste. Our solution was to replace the pin carrier with a
tiny slide and air cylinder that would lower the paste needle on demand.
