There has been so little content on EDM on this and other lists that I think any useful information on the subject is helpful. The different types of dielectric fluids is just as important as the types
of chips used to build the drivers. The more discussion on the various aspects of this technology the better IMHO.
I have built several home brew EDMs and every tidbit helps make them better. A circuit I'm working on for my next version will help the problem of flushing out the cavity. The circuit is basically a
timer that reverses the stepper travel to back the electrode out of the cavity a little before the burn continues. This action sucks in clean fluid and pumps out the crud. The circuit uses a dual
timer. The first timer sets the interval between flushes and the second sets the length of time the stepper is reversed. There is also a switch to turn this feature on and off as well as the usual
switch to manually retract the electrode.
