Re: Clarifications needed - 5 volts

I recently boxed up a gecko to make a single axis control for an
experiment I am doing as part of my Phd. I didn't want to have extra
cables comming from the PC so put a 5v regulator in the box and
connected this up to the main motor supply. This works fine as I
linked the 0v of the port and supply.

Stepping 80v down to 5v might have ramifications (such as a hot
regulator) and perhaps this is a bad way to do things as far as
isolation goes??
