Hi Ray:
Are you talking about the manual pulse generator to jog the axes, or are
you talking about actual handwheels bolted to the ballscrews.
The MPG is certainly indispensable for CNC operation, and is used exactly as
you describe, but actual discs with handles on the ballscrews is an utter
nuisance, and in the "real world" we always took them off as soon as we took
delivery of any machine that had them on.
