Handwheels again?!? was Re: true closed loop vs. hobby closed loop

When I machine I like to wear a baseball cap, you may not.

Hand wheels are the same way, an opinion or preference. As a
manufacturer I do not install them for a few reasons, safety is a big
one, performance is another.

Safety is an opinion as well, I wear hearing protection but not
safety glasses (go figure). Having a spinning handle out there might
bother you or it might not, personally it bothers me, plus it adds a
big liability to my product. So their gone.

The added rotational inertia of the wheels does affect performance,
no matter how you work it. Having all that mass at the peripheral
adds increased load when accelerating and decelerating, that's just
simple physics.

As far as the arguments how the wheels help you, they are all based
on YOUR style of machining. Some folks just figured out how to do
the same things you rely on the wheels for without them. Either way,
none of us are doing it wrong, just different.

PS. When I say I like to wear a baseball capÂ… That's ALL I wear and
I will swear that I machine 10 times better that way ;-)

Is that wrong? Or just different?
