Aaron,
Nice post. I agree with nearly all of it.
But the claims made are not ones of opinion or preference. The
repeated claims are that using handwheels is "faster" or "easier"
than using the cnc machine "manual" capabilities... (and the
words "quick-and-dirty" or "one-off" seem also to be generally
included)
As an engineer, you surely understand that such a claim needs to have
something behind it besides "opinion" or "preference"...
I have claimed the opposite. And posted examples of how, and why this
belief is simply untrue. I'm asking others to just support
their "faster, easier" claims with REAL examples.
What item or procedure is faster or easier using mechanical
handwheels than using the "manual" cnc functions like MDI and jog?
It's NOT cutting a part off with an endmill at some not-especially
accurate place; I've posted how the cnc will "beat" that... It's NOT
drilling a couple holes; or lining up a part to a feature, or a
feature to a machine axis...
Ballendo
P.S. I don't care if you wear a baseball cap or not. Until you tell
me that by wearing one I'll be able to make my parts faster. Or
easier. Or better. THEN I'm gonna want to see how. And why.
