You know, I think there may be a significant difference between a
production environment and a hobbyist environment. I personally use the
handwheels on my CNC machine all the time. Yes, I could jog to setup a
part but I find it much quicker to use the handwheels. I also still use
the machine manually about 20% of the time.

If I had an MPG I could see a definite argument for taking the handles
off. Until then I'll keep using my old, outmoded manual discs with handles!

That said, if I was running a shop, and had employees, or visitors or
customers, or whatever, I'd take the handles off in an instant - way too
much liability there.

Every CNC shop I've been in has had at least one manual machine that they
use for squaring stock, doing quick one-offs - anything they don't want
to take the time to setup on the CNC machines.
