I have used both Moglice and the Philadelphia Resins product. I have also
used plain epoxy from West (which I buy in gallon size for boat work) and
mixed in a lot of graphite powder - west sells it to mix in to make very
slippery coating resin for boat bottoms.
My most recent use was Moglice in a Prazi mill I converted to CNC. There are
some photos on my web pages- http://plsntcov.8m.com
I think it works great. Im not sure I can tell the difference between the
products, but I have not run any serious tests- I just made new nuts and put
the machines to work. They make fine parts and my Prazi and my Sherline have
so little backlash I cannot reliably measure it.
I had the Moglice Sales Engineer speak at my club. He made some amazing
claims for the stuff- including a 4" dia acme screw that opened control
gates on a dam. He claimed the bronze nuts wore out in monthss, the moglice
replacements lasted years. He also showed a big (at least 2" dia) ball screw
nut. He claimed to have tested one under an arbor press and it took some
huge pressure to break it. Moglice uses some form of molly lube (im sure I
cant spell it)
Philadelphia Resins say they use graphite in their product. I had a short
talk with one of their sales guys at an EASTEC show. He basically said 'me
too' to any of the Moglice claims.
For a home shop CNC machine Id say try it with plain old epoxy and graphite-
they would cost next to nothing. If it failed, you can always bore it out
and make another.
Just be sure to use a good parting wax- sticking epoxy to your leadscrew
could ruin your day.
