Mariss;
I have some of your stepper drives an love them. Allow
me to make some comments that I hope that you will
not take the wrong way.
I have been following the development of the G200X for a
while. I was excited by the specification. The added features
made me thing that the G200X will be the greatest controller ever.
However in the back of my mind I started to sense something
uncomfortably familiar; creeping features. This is the death
of more than one project that I have been involved in.
(Let me show you my scars sometime. ;-)).
Some points;
* Who needs 6 axis? Likely the vast majority of people need only 3.
* 6 encoder inputs. Nice feature. Necessary?
* Analog I/O. Nice feature. Necessary?
* Digital I/O. Probably a necessary feature.
* USB, obviously necessary.
I have learned the hard way, to say to those people that ask for a neat
feature "that is a rev. 2 feature". I find that if I don't do it then
I never finish rev. 1. When rev. 1 comes out they are so excited that
they have forgotten about the rev 2 feature.
As far as an open source project, that possibility ended when you
specified a processor that has no free development system. The
open source crowd is a prickly bunch. It is not the cost of the
software, they spend a huge amount on hardware, it is the principle
of the thing. Open source projects have accomplished amazing
things but there is an art to motivating them.
Please don't take this wrong. I am astounded by what you have
accomplished.
Thanks,
Pete.
