OTOH, maybe it would be better advice to see what software meets his
requirements and then find out what computer it needs to operate on...

Personally I consider much of what windoze does to be bloated and wasteful,
so I wouldn't even choose it, or recommend it either, but would instead
choose a dos-based product or perhaps a linux-based one. But that's just me.
