'please don't tell me about software that requires hardware changes
also, I have a DOS PC and want to know what I can use on that....
but, maybe that is a little long.
Turbo-CNC is a very nice program and does run in DOS and you can run
your 3 axis machine on it.
There are a few tool path viewers so you can run one of them and see
how the tool will progress thru the part before you run. Not while
you run. Although it is kinda neat to watch the machine draw lines,
aren't those in the part in front of you anyway ?
I'm Surpprized Fred didn't comment about one of his offerings.
I would recomend you keep your eyes out for a faster PC. I seem to
find one in the trash a couple times a year, and when I asked a few
friends, it seems a few people wanted to clean out their closets.
I didn't get 1 ghz, but recently did get a 133.
Another reason I like to start on Turbo-CNC is that you get involved
with the g-code. knowing how to add a line here and there makes you
a step above those who have to go back to CAD, re-draw, then dfx out,
then import and all that just to make a small point or line change.
