OTOH, maybe it would be better advice to see what software meets his
requirements and then find out what computer it needs to operate on...

Personally I consider much of what windoze does to be bloated and wasteful,
so I wouldn't even choose it, or recommend it either, but would instead
choose a dos-based product or perhaps a linux-based one. But that's just me.

///You're right, it's a matter of personal preference and what the users requirements are. The drawbacks for Mach2 is it requires a computer capable of running XP. Which adds to the build cost. What I like about the windows environment is, being able to minimize the control software and open the Cad/Cam program right on the same machine, draw a part or a whole tool for that matter and generate code from that as I need it. Then save it to the desktop and retrieve it with the control software. Having it all on one console is a big factor for me. Saves the cost of another PC and running back and forth. It uses notepad for program composition, which most people are comfortable with already. My preference, I wouldnt want a DOS or Linux based software. I never have any trouble with Mach2, its rock steady. Ron ///
