I have a third reason.

A veriest tyro does not know it is easier to use a PC parallel port
than any other method.

I read the post and think he is looking for everything. plans for
building a machine as well as software.

My first question it "what type of work do you want to do?"

From there, all answers become logical and almost academic.

My reasoning is that if someone does not even know the type of
machine to build. the software and electronics decisions are too far
down the road to answer.
