Hi Bob,

Couple of questions,

First are you sure you require 5 volts ?

if you are driving optos on some drivers, the 3.3 volts might work.

Second, an octal buffer has 8 channels and you'll need two on the
board, and most likely you will also want to us opto isolation on the
inputs, so another chip or chips for those 5 lines.

you should be able to put all that onto one perf board from radio shack.
