Thanks for the input Mary.

Problem is that here in the UK, by the time things have crossed the pond,
the price in dollars becomes the same number but with a pound sign in front
of it. I wish it were possible to purchase a computer for the equivalent
of $299. At current exchange rate that is £175. Cheapest price in
Staples flyer that came in the letter box today is £399 ($679) for an
unknown make desktop, and £499 ( $850) for a HP Pavilion notebook. I would
have no problem in sourcing a cheap desktop machine - in fact, I gave one
away not long ago - but I don't have the space in the workshop for anything
larger than a laptop.
