EMC Question

For Ray Henry, Jon Elson, Tom Hubin and anyone else that is a user of EMC.
I am a user of the Sherline version of EMC (ver 2.xx) for the past 2 years and I wish to upgrade my computer and EMC version at this time. I have been very pleased with EMC in the past and the very few problems that I have had I've been able to solve through good people like yourselves and through the Sherline manual.
I am a little confused on what is best now, in the EMC world. EMC1 or EMC2 and the different distributions i.e. Ubuntu, Fedora Core 3, Cool CNC, and BDI. In the past I used the BDI version to install Linux and EMC and used the Sherline modified screen for EMC. This has worked well as I said earlier. Could you guy's direct me in the right direction in this matter. I've noticed on the Sherline site that there are some issues and some patches for the 4.xx versions of EMC, but they do not say if this is EMC1 or EMC2. Also the distributions, do all of these end up with the same end result or are they different. I have been to the EMC web site and read it, but I am still unsure.
I'm sorry if all of these questions seem elementary to you guy's, but it seems confusing to me. I just want the best working system that I can get and need some help getting there.
Thanks in advance,
Victor A.
