Before all the linux users jump in (besides myself) and turn this in a
heavily off-topic thread touching all things philosophical, theological,
and linux-ical, a simple web search for the history of linux might be in
order.
I offer two good ones:
http://ragib.hypermart.net/linux/
http://www.opensource.org/sco-vs-ibm.html
I will submit my opinion (based on what I've read) that Linux is not
Unix, but that linux carries on the Unix Philosophy, of building tools
to build tools.
Even for non-programmers, I recommend reading "The Art of Unix
Programming" by Eric S. Raymond (also available on the web). Some of
you might see the parallels between Raymond's proposals of design
aesthetics in programming and what we do in the shop :)
