It does sound like you have some spindle problems, but you have just
discovered the major truth of home built machines- all this effore to
get high speed moves is wasted- its only use if for rapid moves between
cuts. That may be important in commercial applications where througput
is all important, but for home shop kind of use it is far more important
to get good reliable movement at cutting speed rather that rapids.

High rapid speeds are just bragging rights.
